We’ve been hearing a lot about marketing campaigns that are engaging and creative—and some of them even resonate within the audience. But it’s still not a very common sight to hear many of them utilizing augmented reality (AR) experiences.
Despite all that, using AR is actually one of the golden opportunities laid upon them to open up and engage with new customers towards your brand.

According to Mindshare, AR experiences are 200% much more engaging since they provide twice the level of engagement compared to non-AR experiences. Based solely on that fact and statistic, it could be a thing to consider.
So now that you’ve already got into this, the next question is probably, “What kind of AR marketing campaigns should I create?”
Chillax, we’ve got it all for you! In this article, we’ll dive deep into some big brands and persons that utilize AR for their marketing campaigns. From high-end brands like Christian Dior to the tech Xiaomi, get to know all of them below.
As a top-of-mind when it comes to furniture brands, IKEA really plays the game strong for their AR campaigns.
In September 2017, IKEA actually already launched IKEA Place, which is an AR app for people to try out their furniture virtually. This is simply done by scanning the environment, and they can place their favorite furniture and check whether it goes along with the room or not.
However, this whole-new revolution is now made available to access as a feature called IKEA Kreativ, right through their IKEA app. People can simply scan their room with the app, and then place their favorite furniture with AR experiences—which is also powered by AI.
If the room’s packed, there’s also an option for you to virtually delete your existing furniture. This will make room for you to place IKEA furniture, and you’ll be more free to design and create the space of your dream.
After designing, you can simply check out the items—if you think that they all fit and match your ideas—and deliver them right to your doorsteps.
Talking about brands, it must be a golden time when you’re about to launch a new addition to your product. It has to be special, memorable, and stun the audience in the right way.
That’s why Xiaomi Indonesia took this opportunity to shine among other competitors. As they were about to release the Redmi Note 10 5G series in Indonesia, they created an AR-powered invitation for their virtual launching event with the help of Assemblr.
It only takes a single Assemblr Studio app or even Instagram filter, and the invited people can scan the invitation card to see the magic, animated invitation come to life in front of the card.
Who doesn’t like Jumanji here? For us, it’s instantly one of those movies that describe the phrase "good old time" really well. And as Sony Pictures Entertainment released Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019, they decided to leverage the experiences by creating a web-AR-based campaign.
Through their promotional website, people can explore the world of Jumanji in a real-life, real-time experience on the web. When you say “Show me Jumanji”, the web also reacts by revealing exclusive AR contents—which brings the film sets as well as the cast videos to real life with its interactive animation.
Since the concept of the movie itself is to take people to the Jumanji world, this campaign is also made somehow aligned with that message. However, instead of getting you brought to the Jumanji world, you can immerse yourself in the world of Jumanji in their real life, right around them.
Upon their release of their latest menswear lineup, the B27 sneakers, Christian Dior decided to join hands with Snapchat to create an AR filter for AR virtual try-on purposes.
Using smartphone, the AR filter allows people to try six pairs of B27 sneakers in the real world—and even better, they had the opportunity to buy shoes directly from the filter as well. As a result, it gained more than 2.4 million views across the world—making the campaign able to drive interest and excitement towards people.
Asking kids to brush their teeth can be quite challenging every day. But that’s the perfect opportunity that the Pokémon team grabs! They decided to create this AR app called Pokémon Smile—which will help children brush their teeth properly and regularly.
With its ability to track the kids’ face, the app will show the children wearing a super cute Pikachu hat while brushing their teeth properly. They also had a mission to save Pokémons from cavity-causing bacteria—which is in the form of AR gamification. And even better, there are more than 100 Pokémons available that children can collect!
The result was quite promising as well. It gained over 500,000 downloads and 7,500 five-star reviews—and at the same time, many YouTubers also review this app.
What would you do when you’re releasing a new edition of your perfume? Obviously, you'll go for offline campaigns all across the store, but Estée Lauder took it a step further.
As they rolled out their newest Luxury Fragrance Collection, they decided to create an AR filter on Snapchat, attracting Gen Z and millennials as their main audience.
Promoting the four new brands, which are Tender Light, Sensuous Stars, Dream Dusk, and Radiant Mirage, they bring the perfume to life with immersive experiences on the filter.
When they scan around their environment, you will be asked to select one perfume brand, and you can explore the mood and emotion highlights of the perfume.
Do you remember that Pac-Man game you used to play? Pizza Hut managed to bring the digital version of the game with AR experiences!
As a part of their “Newstalgia” campaign, this game allows people to play the Pac-Man game on AR view—simply by scanning limited QR code available with their mobile devices on the pizza box.
If lucky, they could even get an Arcade1Up Pac-Man machine cabinet, given by the chain itself!
These are just a few of more awesome examples of AR marketing campaigns, created by brilliant brands. Do you get inspired with these examples? You can actually try creating this experience yourself—simply by using Assemblr Studio!
You can create your own AR experiences, simply by dragging and dropping objects and elements needed for your AR projects. Be it markerless or marker-based AR, you can make your dreams come true!
